Portrait Photography for May Photo Group Meeting

Lunar Eclipse

Well after trying to decide whether to face the cold outside to see the lunar eclipse people were talking about I made it outside and drove up the road just a bit to shoot some photos of the lunar eclipse. Boy was I glad I did, I think my brother who was visiting from Oregon thought i was crazy standing out there in the cold at 6 degrees but you got to take a little pain for to get the results sometimes. That was till I used my brain and shot with my cable release inside the car with the heat turned up. I love technology. Attached is 1 shot that I really like although I think I have about 90 images of the moon. How loony am I to shoot the same thing over and over again?

Well, just a reminder that we will be meeting at rabbit creek community church on the the first thursday of January which I believe is the 6th at 6:30. Hope to see you all there and don't forget to bring your photos from the last month to share. We will be discussing lighting techniques and macro photography in order to prepare for our next shoot which will be taking photos of flowers and small things etc. whatever. Should be a fun time.

Photography Group Meeting

We will be meeting Monday the 13th at 6:30 at Rabbit Creek Community Church to go over portraits for the holidays. We will focus on poses and how to best take the photo and what lighting to look for as well as back drops etc. We hope you can make it, everyone is welcome to come.

Rams on turnagain arm

Having this week off has been great. I haven't been able to do as much as I would have liked but I was able to squeez some time in and go down the turnagain arm at Beluga Point to see some great dall sheep. I tried to shoot them near F7 to find the sweet spot in the lens not shooting wide open. They turned out pretty good and I was very happy to see the clarity when processing them. What a beautiful day.

November Outing Photos

We had a great time at this month's outing.  We spent some time down by West High School taking timed photos of downtown, Westchester Lagoon, & traffic lights. We spent time learning how to use tripods and manual exposures to create the image we were looking for. Each person spent some time getting to know how to adjust their aperture and shutter speed. It was a great learning experience and fun was had by all. Espeically those dressed for the cold weather since it was around 20 degrees out. Don't forget to join us at the next meeting Dec 2nd a thursday evening at Rabbit Creek Community Church at 6:30pm. Feel free to bring photos to share and how you took them. We will review some photoshop techniques and also be planning our next outing for the month. Hope to see you there.

November Photography Outing

Wednesday November 17 we will be meeting at Rabbit Creek Community Church at 6:30pm.  We will leave by 6:40 and head to shoot city lights and create light trails from traffic.  If late give us a call 632-5393 to see where we are.  See you there.

RCCC Photography Group

Want to learn more about taking & editing photos?  Our group will be meeting the 1st Thursday of each month, 6:30 pm at Rabbit Creek Community Church for learning & sharing about photography.  All camera types & skill levels welcome.   Next meeting Thursday November 4, 2010. 
We will also try and get out for monthly photo shoots.  If you aren't able to make it to the Thursday meeting send us an email if you want us to send you updates of where we are going to be shooting next.

In early January 2010 we went for a drive down the Seward Hwy which runs along Cook Inlet, headed south out of Anchorage. This is known as the Turnagain Arm. It was a cold and very bright, sunny day. We didn't see many sheep this day, they were too high up to get any good pictures without a hike we were not interested in making. It was gorgeous though and there are so many places to photograph. If you are in Alaska or planning a visit I would recommend driving the Seward Hwy for many beautiful views without having to travel far from Anchorage. Here's just one photo at Bird Creek headed into the ice chunked but moving Cook Inlet.
